Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) has received an inadequate inspection report – find out more here
Members of the People Overview & Scrutiny Committee will review and provide feedback on the draft Adult Social Care Improvement Plan at their meeting on Wednesday 28 January. PaCC will attend to observe the discussion, support meaningful progress where appropriate, and continue to challenge ongoing concerns about provision for 18–25 years old known to the Specialist Community Disability Team, including young people approaching 18.
BHCC’s improvement plan – find out more here – was developed in response to a CQC report that rated BHCC adult social care services as “requires improvement.” Ahead of the meeting, PaCC wrote to the Director of Adult Social Care, Steve Hook, raising key concerns:
- In light of annual reviews being overdue by up to 30 months, what data is being used to inform the recommissioning of Day Services for people over 18 and housing needs for young people.
- PaCC has asked Brighton and Hove City Council whether a system is in place that indicates the need for an urgent social care annual review ahead of a young person leaving full-time education, to ensure effective planning and avoid families and young people reaching crisis point.
- PaCC have asked for urgent communications to be shared with the community that show the aims and processes of the BHCC action plan.
