PaCC has written to BHCC Councillors again ahead of decision making on the future of Wellington House – the BHCC in-house provision for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
PaCC, alongside others who attended and or viewed Scrutiny on 4 September, remain concerned that discussions between Adult Social Care leads and Special School Heads on the proposed closure of Wellington House have yet to take place. PaCC has consistently stressed that these meetings should be prioritised, and raised this during the consultation period and, again at Scrutiny. PaCC and others were led to understand that these conversations would take place before Cabinet, to further inform Cabinet members ahead of a decision being made.
Cabinet members must recognise the value of the Special School heads Vanessa Hickey and Rachel Burstow’s expertise in supporting young adults aged 18 to 25 with Learning Disabilities and Autism, and the importance of their informed views on day provision across the city, a view shared by the Chair of Governors at Hill Park.
PaCC raise this specific issue ahead of Cabinet, alongside the many issues outlined in our two reports on Wellington House.
